Allergies and Special Dietary Requirements at Zouk
We take allergies and special dietary requirements very seriously at Zouk and are constantly reviewing our processes to try and create the best possible experience for our customers. All of the big 14 allergens are detailed on the menu pages of our website. Simply look underneath the product description where you can see the allergens a dish may contain listed. If nothing is listed, then this dish is free of the big 14 allergens. On our website, we list fully the names of any allergens present in a dish. We do this on all of our online menus so it is easy for diners to check what allergens a dish may contain if they are researching options at the restaurant and trying to plan ahead.Â
Allergen Index
In our restaurant, we use a numeric allergen index on all our printed menus. The big 14 allergens are each given a number from 1 to 14 and any allergens present in a dish can be identified by their corresponding number at the end of the dish description.
1 = celery
2 = gluten
3 = crustaceans
4 = eggs
5 = fish
6 – lupin
7 = milk
8 = molluscs
9 = mustard
10 – nuts
11 = peanuts
12 = sesame seeds
13 = soya
14 = sulphur dioxide
For example, somebody who is coeliac or has a gluten intolerance would need to avoid any dishes with the number 2 appearing at the end of the product description.
This numeric index or code is used on all our printed menus and also on the downloadable menu PDFs that appear on our website. If a member of your party has questions about allergens we recommend you share the website menu page link with them or download the relevant menu pdf and you can share the menu with them too.
If you have an allergy that is uncommon or not one of the big 14 (listed above) and would like to know what dishes you may eat in our restaurant please contact us with details of your allergy at manchestermanager@zoukteabar.co.uk and we will respond with more information.
If you are in the restaurant and need this information urgently then product descriptions are kept in our reception area with a full list of ingredients available. We also have an allergen matrix in our reception with details of the big 14 allergens for every dish. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
Managing Risks
At Zouk, we believe training and education are key to making our dining environment enjoyable for everyone. We train all our staff to the highest standard possible and use the latest technology from Shield Safety Systems to manage risks in our kitchen and dining space.
All our staff complete the Food Standards Agency Allergy Training and must pass the accompanying examination prior to commencing their employment at the restaurant. This ensures colleagues at Zouk understand the importance of managing allergens and that they can communicate clearly and confidently with customers who may have queries regarding allergens or menu items.
Please note that whilst every measure possible is taken to manage allergens at Zouk we sometimes purchase products from manufacturers where many allergens are handled. This means our food may not always be suitable for guests with serious allergies and we recommend you speak with your server if you have any questions or concerns. If we have been made aware by a supplier that there is a risk of traces of any allergens in a product we will detail this on our menus and on our allergen matrix.
