Dragon Boat Race 2023

Zouk is fundraising for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity with a Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 14^th May! We aim to raise £1,400 to help support the children’s hospital with their vital work. This year RMCH Charity is being supported by Peninsula Group who will match-fund every penny our team raises! This means through teamwork and charitable donations, we could raise up to £2,800 for this amazing hospital! Sponsor our team to help us raise money on our JustGiving page.

Race Detail

As we are quickly approaching May, it is coming up to one of Zouk’s favourite times of the year: fundraising for charity season! In previous years you have seen the Zouk staff raise nearly £1000. Last autumn this was achieved by abseiling down a 19-storey building! This month we're setting sail and getting ready for our first ever Dragon Boat Race! 

11 of our amazing staff, including Zouk owner Tayub Amjad, will be taking part in the Dragon Boat Race. The race takes place at the fabulous Trafford Watersports Centre in Sale. Join us for this family event and watch our Zouk Dragons as we will be battling against 16 other teams. There will be at least 3 heats throughout the day and a grand finale too! Winning isn’t the real prize, however, as any money that we are able to raise for Royal Manchester Children’s hospital is what takes the real trophy.

Dragon Boat History

What is a Dragon Boat Race, you may ask? Dragon Boat Racing originated in China over two thousand years ago and was used as a method for travel for families with less money. Dragon Boats are rowed by their occupants and can hold between 11 and 21 passengers. It is an extraordinary feat of strength, technique and teamwork to effectively row a Dragon Boat. We're looking forward to seeing how our team fare swapping frying pans and iPads for oars and paddles. This is why it’s the perfect event for Zouk to take part in and help fundraise!
