  • 5kg lamb chops
  • 2 tablespoons garlic & ginger paste per chop
  • 50ml lemon juice
  • 500g yogurt
  • 300g tikka paste (Why not make your own tikka marinade paste?)
  • 80g cumin seed powder (ground in-house)

  • 50g chilli powder
  • 60g tandoori masala
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Marination Process For Indian-Style Lamb Chops

Now you have all of your ingredients ready to go, it’s time to start preparing your Indian-style lamb chops. The marination phase is crucial in our recipe as it allows all of the authentic Indian spices to infuse into the lamb chops, creating a rich and flavorful taste once grilled. Let's take a closer look at the two stages of marination required to create our delicious Indian-style lamb chops.

First Stage of Marination

The first stage of marination is important for tenderising the meat, helping to ensure your lamb chops are juicy and succulent once cooked. Preparation of the first marination stage is incredibly easy - it really is just a case of combining the ingredients (specified below) together!

  1. Put lamb chops into a large container or dish.
  2. Carefully cover each lamb chop evenly with the garlic & ginger paste, as well as the lemon juice. Take care to ensure all of the meat is covered for best results.
  3. Leave the chops to marinate for at least one hour.

Although one hour is long enough to leave you with an amazing dish, we would recommend leaving for longer for even more flavour!

Second Stage of Marination

Once the first stage of marination is complete, it is time to move on to the next stage. This is where our recipe truly comes alive!

  1. Add all remaining ingredients to the marinated lamb chops - yoghurt, tikka paste, cumin seed powder, coriander powder, garam masala, chilli powder, tandoori masala, and salt.
  2. Mix everything together, ensuring an even distribution of the marinade across all areas of the meat.
  3. Leave to marinate for at least 20 minutes before cooking.

Cooking Method

Now your lamb chops are infused with flavour, it’s time to get grilling! The gentle initial cooking phase allows the meat to tenderise before the switch to higher heat delivers the perfect finish. If you don’t have a BBQ available, you can cook the lamb chops under a grill or griddle.

  • Cook on low heat (over hot coals) for 5-10 minutes.
  • Cook on high heat (in flame) for a further 5 minutes to finish.
  • Ensure that the juices run clear so you know that the chops are ready to enjoy

Serving Suggestions

Here are a few of our top tips for serving your Indian-style lamb chops:

  • If served as a starter or as part of a BBQ event, we would recommend serving 3-4 pieces - depending on chop size.
  • We would suggest serving the lamb chops with either imlee sauce or mint sauce
  • If served as a main course, pair the chops with rice and seasonal vegetables sautéed with butter and a pinch of crushed chillies.
